I am a recent grad & I want to use my degree to create positive social impact, especially in regard to equal rights. I was fortunate enough to land a job w/ a nonprofit mgmt & fundraising consulting firm, however, my first assignment is fundraising for a Catholic school. The project itself is great, raising money for facilities for the students, but I struggle w/ the fact that my beliefs conflict w/ theirs i.e. equal rights. Should I stick it just out for the experience? — Asked by Anonymous

That’s a really tough question - one that I’m not sure I can answer for you…it’s such a personal decision. If it was me and the money I was raising was going toward something I agreed with (like you said, facilities for the students) I would go for it. If I would have to raise funds for the schools pro-life group or something I would probably pass. That said, it’s also a question of if your employer will let you decline to fundraise for some groups - a good job is hard to come by and one has to be in a pretty privileged position to be able to turn down work, even if it’s for political reasons. So again - it’s a super personal decision.
